Temperature Adjustments on Electronic Ovens

Most electronic ovens & ranges (those having an LED display) can be adjusted for proper temperatures by entering the Temperature Adjustment mode built into the majority of these controls. It is mandatory to have an oven thermometer (or digital temperature meter)  available to check your current actual temperatures and make any adjustments before you proceed.

Steps for Calibration-

1. Place oven thermometer (mercury or digital only) on center rack. Digital probes can be wrapped once around the center rack tines to hold them in place, allowing the metal tip of the probe to extend upward about an inch. (Don't let tip touch rack)

2. Set oven control to BAKE at 350°. After oven goes thru the pre-heat cycle and beeps, wait an additional 5 minutes for the cavity temp to stabilize. If the temperature is more than 25 ° off after the waiting period specified above, you may opt to re-calibrate it more closely to actual temperature. If it is less than 25°, no adjustment is recommended.

3. To program your electronic control to a more accurate reading, touch the BAKE key and set the temperature for 550°. The press the BAKE key again, this time HOLDING IT DOWN for 5 seconds, or until the temperature readout changes from the 550° setting to a 2-digit display, usually 00. This is your OFFSET temperature. You can adjust your oven temperature to 35° above or below the baking temperature  you measured on the first step by selecting the ↑ or ↓ button on your control within 5 seconds.  You will see the offset temperature rise or fall in 5° increments depending on your selection. Each press of the button changes the temps by 5°, and is indicated by the + or - symbol before the offset reading. Once you achieve the desired change in temperature, press CANCEL to lock the setting into the memory bank of the control.

4. Press BAKE and set the next temperature to 400° and allow it to pre-heat again. Always allow an extra 5 minutes after the preheat beep on all electronic ovens before you take a reading. This allows the temps to settle into the Bake mode correctly.

The electronic temperature control always preheats the oven about 25-50° above the actual baking temperature to assure the cavity is plenty hot and to compensate for the huge temperature loss when you open the door to place the food on the rack. For this reason, you should not judge the first temperature reading you see when the oven preheats, rathe wait a few minutes for the temps to equalize before attempting an adjustment. Of course, you can always go back into the Offset Mode to make any changes to the adjustments later.
