If it makes the same sound whether there is a load or not, then you must disassemble the dryer to see what got caught in there. I typically find small items in the front felt seal area after removing the front panel. Follow the instructions in the front of the dryer forum regarding how to open the Kenmore dryers.

If nothing significant is found in the front seal, remove the belt from the motor and twirl the motor pulley by hand, as it is attached to the blower fan in back. You can also turn the drum again at this pint to see if the drum rollers are making the noise, since the belt will take the motor/blower out of the picture. It is easy to eliminate what is working and what is noisy.
Hopefully you replaced the wax motors before installing the machine control or it may have gotten bit. Did the old machine control show any signs of scorching around the R-11 resistor or on back?

When you wired the new board in did you get the wires right going to the small black relay? The gray wire goes on top, the black underneath.

This sounds like a typical failure of the motor speed control. It senses motor amps drawn while the unit is tumbling and assigns an action to the motor. Obviously it tried to work on Delicate with no load, but does not work otherwise. I keep these on my truck as they fail quite a bit after a few years. Remember, frontloaders do not have transmissions, so all the work has to be done thru the drive motor. The motor controller/inverter has the job of setting the direction and RPSs of the motor base on input from a Hall sensor in the motor, plus amperage draw as the motor runs. The board can tell exactly how big a load is in the tub as it turns.

As long as you have inspected and cleaned the pump and it puts out a strong discharge when it runs, then the motor speed control is your solution. Yours is shown below and you may click the pic to order.
By your description it seems like your motor has decided to go South on you. The clicking and burning smell indicate a failed centrifugal switch built into the motor. In cases like this I always remove the cabinet on the machine so I can inspect the pump which sits in front of the motor, as any small leak from the pump seal can permeate the motor and cause it to eventually fail. Anything caught in the pump can also cause it to bind the motor as well, so check the pump carefully for debris and see if the shaft will turn easily. If you see no traces of a leak from the shaft end of the pump and it turns freely, you can assume it is a simple motor failure and replace the drive motor itself.
The motor for your model is shown below and you may click to order.
Sheller, P.C. is currently investigating claims related to Kenmore Elite HE3t and HE4t washing machine "motor control," "central control," "circuit board" or "computer board" failures for a potential class action. These claims often become apparent to consumers when their Kenmore HE3t or Kenmore HE4t washing machine becomes inoperable and displays the F11 error code.

Many consumers have reported receiving the F11 error shortly after their warranty expired while others note receiving the F11 error within months of purchasing their washing machine. In many cases, consumers report that they had to replace the Kenmore HE3t or Kenmore HE4t's "control board" or "circuit board" to resolve the F11 error.

Posted: Thu Nov 05, 2009 8:06 am

There will always be a bit of water left under that strainer...it is designed to keep the pump seals from drying out during periods of inactivity. You can always test the output of your pump by allowing the unit to fill, then switch to the end of the final rinse so it will start draining. Monitor the discharge into the disposer (or sink) to ensure that there is a steady flow of water from the dishwasher. The tub should be empty within 30 seconds after the pump starts. The water below the strainer is normal, we just don't want to see it in the tub. Be sure your drain hose is not brought in from the bottom of the sink instead of at the top. This will cause difficulty draining and will trap debris in the hose run.

It may be a water level issue that is preventing your pump from washing properly. Over time, the water valve collects calcium precipitate from the water supply and becomes clogged. When this happens, water volume delivered to the tank is severely reduced which translates into poor washing. My recommendation is two-fold:

a. Replace the water valve every few years for best results, especially in hard water conditions.
b. Use a dishwasher treatment such as Affresh every month to prevent buildups in the lower pump area and keep the drain line clear.

The valve for your model is shown below and it is located just behind the lower panel. A 15 minute repair that should bring life back to your dishwasher. (Save the brass fitting from the old valve and transfer it to the new one using Teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads.)

From time to time, I like to ponder the world around me and why we are in the shape we are in these days. I decided to document some of these thoughts as they occur.

Nov 5, 2009-
Let me see if I understand all this...
If you cross the North Korean border illegally you get 12 years hard labor.
If you cross the Iranian border illegally, you are detained indefinitely.
If you cross the afghan border illegally, you get shot.
If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally, you will be jailed.
If you cross the Chinese border illegally, you may never be heard from again.
If you cross the Mexican border illegally, you will be imprisoned and/or fined severely.
If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally, you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.
If you cross the Cuban border illegally, you will be thrown into political prison to rot.
If you cross the U.S. border illegally, you get:
· A job
· A drivers license
· A social security card
· Welfare
· Food stamps
· Credit cards
· Subsidized rent or a loan to buy a house
· Free education
· Free health care
· your kids get free lunches at school
· A lobbyist in Washington
· A supreme court to take up your cause
· a US congress to fight your battles and ACORN to get you a voters card so you can continue to vote for the Democratic Communist party.

I love MY COUNTRY, but this is interesting!!
We've tried and recommended lots of products for the dishwasher, such as Dishwasher Magic, etc. but now Whirlpool has come out with a great product along the lines of their famous Affresh Washer Cleaner. So far, my test results with these products have been superior to any others on the market, so I offer them to you.
The sensor should have around 1090 or 1100 Ohms at room temp.
I think the problem lies in the oven control. A fairly simple and straightforward repair.
Great post!!!..I checked mine and there was a 5 year old nest in there..I wish the filter was accessable without having to take the lower panel off...seems it would be much easier and I would have known there was even a filter there...This site is awsome!

Thanks, Kevin
