Be certain the drain hose was not brought in down near the floor of the cabinet. The hose should be elevated above the level of the disposer or drain outlet to prevent siphoning. If your hose was installed incorrectly, odors and foul water can run back from the disposer. (A good way to get Hepatitis, among other things.)

If your hose is installed like this, either re-install it at the top of the cabinet or if you are lucky, there will be enough slack in the hose to raise it up high enough in a loop under the sink to counter the effects of siphoning. Likewise, if your garbage disposer tends to choke up during the dishwasher drain cycle, time for a new, sharper disposer.

At the end of the cycle I am left with about an inch of water in the bottom of the tube and there is now a foul smell when I run the dishwasher. I have checked the drain for any blockage and found none. I have also replaced the drain hose. Any ideas on how to fix this?
