Neptune stack washer+dryer MUG2000AWW s.n. 11195465UU
This old (1998 !) machine gets very little use but has developed a problem that is not discussed in any of the forums. When I press the "Start" button with the door closed and the controls set to any wash program, it makes a noise like a machine gun from the inlet solenoids.I have unscrewed the plate that retains the solenoids but was unable to get access to check their resistance.(should be 1000 ohms?).
The screens are clear, hoses clear, water pressure good, service valves are on. Do I need to replace the inlet valve+solenoid "log" assembly?
Years ago the wax motor failed and I rigged up a hack to bypass the two micro-switches.It was an ugly fix but worked well. Now I am thinking I should replace the wax motor and motor control board too? Yes ,I like the old washer+dryer combo.
I would be grateful for any advice on diagnosis/repair.
Thanks, Tony |

Typo in previous post. Model # is MLG...., not MUG .... MUG is the number of the dryer portion of the stackable macuhine only. The combo has it's own number MLG2000AWW. The lower unit is MHW....
Hope this helps,

The problem is a failing water valve diaphragm spring. The water valve must be replace or pretty soon you may have a flooded house. The fact that you jimmied the safety mechanism on the door lock rather than replace a $13 part scares the crud out of me, but it's your world.

Thank you for the diagnosis. I had guessed that was the problem but it is very helpful to have a professional confirmation. I'll replace the valve.
This site is a wonderful discovery.I wish I had known about it years ago when I 'repaired' the wax motor problem. If the water valve replacement is a success ,I'll spring for a new wax motor . Should I replace the Machine Control Board also?
Thanks for your advice.

| Only replace the machine control after the wax motor is installed...if it still won't lock, you can assume the board is history. |

Replacing the water valve assembly did not solve the problem. That is an interesting challenge on a stacker (2000) model.
I had not tried setting the machine Timer to "Spin". This produces the same rapid clicking sound. So I have a no-fill,no-nothing condition at all settings on the Timer.
I am guessing this means the Machine control board needs replacing and should replace the wax motor at the same time.
I shall be grateful for any more guidance.
Thanks, Tony |

You said the noise came from the valve solenoids in your first post...at least that is my interpretation.
In this case, replace the machine control and wax motor. |

Yes, That is where the noise seemed to be from. The stacked machine is built-in to the kitchen cabinets so pinpointing the noise source was a little difficult. But I am becoming a wizard at extracting the machine to work on it! I think the machine will have to be removed again to get to the Machine Control Board. The Motor Control Board is accessible from the front. The wax motor will be easy to access -even on a stacking model.
Many thanks for your advice. And now I have a good ,used water inlet solenoid # 22002437 for anyone who needs one ! |

Nope, the machine control is replaced from the front. The center panel, dryer control panel and the dryer front panel is removed, taking care to disconnect the door switch wires gently and remembering their location on the switch. The top panel is then loosened on the right die so it will lift slightly up. The machine board is fastened by the top panel using 2 screws. Pray tell, for an extra $5 you can download the manual and do it right the first time |
