My wirhlpool makes a clanking noise just before the spin cycyle starts, as it is draining out the wash water. We took out the clothes and let it drain. The noise stopped when we went into the spin cycle. We took on more water and reset at the drain cycle and aded some clothes. The noise (very lound and mettalic) started again.
Any ideas? _________________ themahr |

The clanking noise is coming from the transmission most likely. There is an internal part called the Neutral Drain assembly which can fail and begin to make noise before it goes out completely. The purpose of the Neutral drain assembly is to allow water to drain from the tub before spinning. When the assembly finally fails, it will allow the tub to begin spinning with a full load of water instead of draining first.
I recommend a new machine unless you are very mechanically inclined and want to spend over $250 in parts and tools to fix this one. |
