GE Profile side be side, Model PSS26NHSA WW, Ser # GH411060.

I suspected that the fan was not running when I realized that the top shelf food items were relatively warm.

Normally when I open the door the light goes on and the fan turns off, but now I do not hear the fan turning off (because it's not running). The light does come on so I guess the door switch is OK.

The Turbo Cool function operates properly and turns fan/s on.

Any suggestions of how to fix this?

Thanks much.

Hi Tom;

This model uses a DC powered fan motor (ECM) controlled by the motherboard in back. For it to work in Turbocool rather than in normal mode indicates board issues, and possible a bad evap fan motor. (GE has had coutless issues with both, and us repairman usually replace both the fan and the board to quell the issue.

There should be a mini-manual on your fridge down in the front kickplate area for you to use to properly check the board outputs and fan motor resistance (yes, it gets technical). The GE side by side manual is also available for download on my main website, also on CD ROM there as well.

At days end, you'll need the board and fan motor . I've taken the liberty to research the parts for you and you may click them below if you need them after your diagnosis.

Main Board- comes with all instructions

DC Freezer Fan Motor- click to order

Thank you for your help. I can and will get technical with it.

I ordered the manual from you the last time I had a problem (with this piece of junk). Will order parts if necessary.

I am a little confused. You say the evap fan might be bad. Did you mean the FF fan?

The freezer is OK and the FF temp is cold ....just not even throughout...warmer at the top...and I do not hear the FF fan running when I open the door.

Thanks again.

One of us is confused, fer sure Smile

Best I can recall, there is only one fan that supplies the air, and it is in the freezer. Cold air to the refrigerator is done thru the air damper up top. Certain models also have a fan in the pantry bin, but that's not what I'm referring to.
