|

We have a Maytag Neptune Washer we purchased new in 1997. The model number is MAH3000AWW. I had purchased 3 new wax motors and a machine control panel in May of 2009 but didn't install these items until last weekend. When I turn the control dial around through the various cycles, the water still wants to start immediately as the dial is turned which is what it was doing before.
Since these items were replaced, I also have another problem. The clothes do not get the water totally spun out and are still quite wet when we put them in the dryer. We have to manually spin the clothes again to get the excess water out.
Do you have any ideas as to what might be wrong? Should I put the old machine control panel back in and see what happens? |

Hopefully you replaced the wax motors before installing the machine control or it may have gotten bit. Did the old machine control show any signs of scorching around the R-11 resistor or on back?
When you wired the new board in did you get the wires right going to the small black relay? The gray wire goes on top, the black underneath. _________________ Parts | Diagrams | Donate |

| Yes, I did replace all three wax motors before replacing the board. I didn't notice any scorching at R-11, but I will take another look. I am also going to check the connections of the black and grey wire as you suggest. When I hooked the connections on the new board, I did them one at a time as I took them off of the old board. |

| Sorry for the delay in reporting back. I did look at the old board and didn't see any signs of scorching around R-11 on the front or back. The old wax motors were all three the red shaft versions. I did have the gray and black wires reversed, and changing this did seem to fix the spinning dry problem. However, the machine still wants to start the water flowing while spinning the dial around throught the various cycles. |

Try another board. The machine control is supposed to release power to the machine until the start button is pressed for more than 1 second. There's always a possibility that the start button is stuck. This would be easy since it's just a normally-open switch, so there should be no continuity thru it unless pressed..
Remember to note whether the "lock" light comes on at the end of the wash cycle before it goes into spin. Also take note of whether the pump is pushing out the water forcefully into the drain. Any water left behind will be a problem when the pressure switch is not sensing an empty tub.. _________________ Parts | Diagrams | Donate |

| I was still having problems even after replacing the original machine control board with another board. I decided to go ahead and replace the on-off switch. This fixed the original problem with the machine wanting to turn on as the dial was turned. Everything was back to normal. The original pump still did not seem to be working very well, so I decided to replace it also. When the pump was replaced, the spinning dry problem also went away. It seems that the machine control board was fine. I had previously put the original board back in and noticed no change between the new board and old board. I was still glad that I replaced the three wax motors since all of my original wax motors were the red shaft models. I guess I can keep the replacement board in case I have any additional future problems. |

Glad you got it running back to normal again. Hopefully you have put off any more repairing for a few years. Keeping the machine control as a spare is not a bad idea, since other things besides wax motors can cause them to fail. Happy Holidays! _________________ Parts | Diagrams | Donate |
