| Usually on gas dryers, the ignitor is the common failure. To verify this, simply remove the front panel in order to access the gas valve & burner. The ignitor has 2 wires connected with a plastic connector, which you disconnect and place your volt meter on the 2 terminals coming in to the ignitor. With the unit running in a heat cycle, there should be 120 volts read at the 2 wires. If so, the ignitor is bad. We carry them on our website at http://repair2000.com/dryer_parts.html |

Power to the heater comes from the timer thru the centrifugal switch on the motor, then thru various thermostats and limiters. Each of these components can be checked with your OHM meter for continuity, using the wiring diagram inside the top console (some are pasted under the main top).
A good reference point for the thermostats, etc, is in the picture below (an electric dryer, but with similar structure)
For future reference, always handle the ignitors carefully, and never touch the black part with your fingers. Handle it by the white ceramic base only to avoid contaminating the glow bar. The Whirlpool dryer manual on our website will help you do various tests, as I do not teach appliance repair on the forum. |
