|
|
I have a Maytag Model #LAT8204AAE top load washer.
It will not fill. I have already inspected the water inlet valve and the hoses. The water inlet valve tested that it had power and replaced the hoses. This did not work.
When I attempt to fill the machine, a red light comes indicating the machine is on, but nothing happens, no noises, nothing.
I also noticed that there is a fuse inside the control panel, would this have anything to do with the problem.
My machine is approximately 10-12 years old and worked great up until a few days ago. Thanks for your time. |

The problem here could be a bad lid switch. The fuse you saw is mounted on the old lid switch, and it blew because the little white switch is shorted. Just order the whole assembly below and replace it, swapping wire for wire with the old switch so you get the wires right. There's only one screw holding the assembly on, and the switch slides back and forward to allow it to be adjusted to click when the lid is opened or shut. (See Part Breakdown)

| I installed the new lid switch and hooked up all the wires one at a time. Still nothing happens with the washer. The only thing that happens is that a red light comes on to indicate that there is power. Is there anything else I should check? Thanks again. |

You said you already checked some things. You stated you checked the water valve and it was getting power. If that was true, then the valve should be opening to let water in. In the field, I carry a test cord made up from an old lamp cord with 2 crimp on terminals to slide on things like water valves and motors. Then I can apply my own power and see what happens without involving the machine at all.
If the valve has power and won't open, then the valve is bad. However if it does spray water when you clip a cord to each solenoid, we know the timer is probably bad or even the water temp switch. Be sure the temp switch is not turned partially betweeen settings or this can interrupt power to the valve also.
When you replaced the lid switch, did you adjust it so it clicks when the lid shuts? _________________ FAST-MOVING PARTS | Ask the Repairman |
