My Honeywell Thermostat is doing weird things. This system has a heat pump and an electric furnace.
But the thermostat is not holding the temps input and sometimes it wants to cool everything down to 70 degrees. And I can't do anything about it. So I figure it's probably close to 20 years old and needs to be replaced. but I pulled the thermostat out, it just unplugs from the box that it's mounted in, but it seems to be working better already, maybe just a poor connection someplace. Anyway I will keep you posted

Perhaps your pulling the conrtol from its mounting frame helped clean some dirty contacts there. Blow any errant lint from inside the control as well to prevent shorts, etc. Since the unit is removeable, the metal contacts inside the base unit must also be periodically cleaned with alcohol to remove corrosion and restore good contact.
