| Neptune Washer MAH4000AWW makes a "roaring" noise during "Spin" cycle. Do I need a Bearing Kit? If so what is the part number and how do I order it? |

Hi Craig;
The roaring sound during spin is actually the tub bearing. Being a Maytag guy myself, I was a bit dismayed when the engineers designed the tub so that the bearing in back was not field replaceable. The solution is to order an outer tub assembly. Hey, this is a fun project, and you will be intimately familiar with your Neptune from now on
No, seriously, you should not attempt a tub changeout yourself. I'm all for the average person doing a few simple repairs and such, but this job is a doosey, and even seasoned technicians quiver at the mention of an outer tub job on a Neptune. Me, I can do one in just under an hour, provided the spinner support is intact.
Your plan should include having Maytag Factory service do the labor on this one. After all, it's only about $120. for the labor, plus they guarantee it. It would be just your luck to tear into it yourself and inadvertently cause other problems, such as massive leaks from not putting the tub cover on properly, etc. My advice is let the pros do this one. Their number is 888-462-9824. It's OK if you want to order the outer tub kit in advance, say from us or a source on the Internet whose prices are competitive. The part number you are looking for is 22004080. It comes with a new tub seal kit and limited instructions for $199.00. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere, please do so. Our parts line is 800-507-4040
In closing, I have a suggestion for all Neptune owners to minimize the chances of ruining the tub bearing:
Always use the HE (High Energy) detergent which is recommended for the front loaders. HE soap will not cause suds to speak of, and it is a large amount of suds which can permeate the tub seal and ruin the bearings eventually. There is actually a good reason to buy and use only this type of detergent in your front-loader....it prevents bearing damage. |
