The new "universal" coupling with the metal insert doesn't fit all models. I have a Whirlpool 5100 series washer and the lip on the metal insert in the coupling prevents it from fitting all the way onto the shaft. Should I file the lip off?
The coupling pictured here looks like the correct one but they tell me it's no longer available. |

You are mistaken, sir. The new style coupling with the metal insert indeed fits all direct drive machines. You must tap it onto the shaft using a 1/2" socket until the shaft is flush with the center bushings on both halves of the coupler. _________________ FAST-MOVING PARTS | Ask the Repairman |
