Model # MAV7650AWW
The machine is only about 4 years old and won't spin. A few days prior a load of clothes got unbalanced, but other than that has worked perfectly. |

When you say "it won't spin", can you be more specific?
Does it run at all during the portion of the spin cycle, or does it sit idle?
If it sits idle with no sound, chances are the lid switch is bad. Tis frequently occurs on the Atlantis models after a large load has become unbalanced and cause damage to the lid switch thru banging around. This lid switch is part number 12001908, and is very easy to install in the top console. We carry them at our parts distributors at 800-507-4040 if you can't find one locally.
If in fact it does make sounds like it is running, but the inner basket does not spin, then you may need a new thrust bearing kit under the machine. This is a cluch assembly of sorts, and should be replaced by an experienced person, although the parts are not expensive either.. |

| My father says he can hear the pump running; it just isn't spinning the water out. He went to remove the outer cover on the machine and says he can see a clip holding it , how does he disengage the clip? Any sort of tricks to getting in the machine to replace what is broken? Thanks! |

The top lifts up by inserting an old AOL CD in the front crack about 2" from each corner. Once the top is up, the front panels is removed with 2 screws near the top.
There's not much need to get in there for this problem.
As I said before, and please understand that I am a Maytag servicer, the problem is most likely in the thrust bearing assembly under the machine drive pulley. Your father would be best off not to tinker with this without the Maytag washer manual, which covers the Atlantis models also.
The easiest thing to do is to unplug the machine and lay it back against the wall so you can see the drive belt underneath. (No tools required)
If the pump and the drive pulleys all turn smoothly, then check the tub to pump hose for a possible obstruction. If no obstruction is found, replace the thrust bearing assembly. It has all the instructions in the kit. |
