I have a small piece of metal about the size of a hair pin that poked thru the plastic pump housing, and now its leaking. Can i just use some two part epoxy to fill this small hole, or is there to much pressure in the pump to think this would actually work? I'm also concerned where this peice of metal came from, and did it do damage to the pump? (do these pumps have rubber impellars inside them)? Thanks for your time - Skip

Hi Skip;

As much as I promote saving money on repairs, there are some things we do not do just to save a few bucks. One of them is attemting pump leak repairs or any other leak on a washer without replacing the failed part. The pump you have is designed to discharge at 17 gallons per minute, meaning there is a lot of water force inside the body of the pump. I doubt you can fix it with JB weld, etc, but hey, it's your floor Smile

If all else fails, you can always cough up the $40 and get the new pump. It is shown below and you may click to order. Have a safe and happy holiday season!

Hey Virt, thanks for the reply,
Do you know if this easy to rpl? It's in a pretty tough spot against the front of the cabinet, I do see the clips on either side of it that holds the unit in place, do you just remove this clips, and it slides right off the front of the motor? There's not a whole lot of space there, Thanks again - Skip

The nice thing about all Whirlpool washers is the ability to remove the outer cabinet in 2 minutes. See the following instructions:

WP Cabinet removal

Then, the pump is right there in front of you and pops right out!

Virt, kudo's
I want to thank you for your help on this website forum. I've got several acct's on several different forums about allot of different home repair and mechanical topics, and the information you provided is far and beyond better than any other forum I'm a member of. I removed the cabinet as indicated, although it did take me much longer than 2 minutes, since I'm the rookie repairman, I expected it too. With access to the pump, it was a breeze to remove, a new one was ord'd, and it will be installed the day it arrives. I was amazed how much funk was at the top 6-8" of the outer tub, I use to have a dog, and I think allot of his hair was collected there. Using a plastic ruler with the sharp edge, and a wet cloth, about an hour of careful scrubing all funk was removed, and looks like new. Thanks again, I'll reccomend this forum to many of my family & friends as a extremely valuable resource.
