|
|
This can't be good. Dryer heats up nicely, runs well. But noticed the other night that if you open the door to stop it, the heating element remained ON. Did a nice job of heating up the laundry room.
Question: I am thinking it is thermostat or thermo fuse replacement time.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks! |

I am blind without the correct one. (Hint: Series 70 is not included in the model number, it is inside the door) |

Hi Dan:
Thermostat or fuse? How would that keep the element on?
(Let me do the "thinnin' around here" )
There will always be some power at the element on one leg of the 240 in most cases. The other half is supplied only when the motor comes up to speed.
The only possible way that an electric element can stay heating is:
1. If there is a metal object (bra wire?) caught in the element and grounding it to the frame.
2. The element has broken or is sagging within the housing, causing it to touch the housing.
3. Bad motor (rare, but happens)
There you have it! To rule out a shorted heater, I unplug the dryer and use my OHM meter set at the hightest OHM resistance scale and test either element terminal to ground. If it shows any reading at all you have a short. Naturally, you can remove the element from its housing and check it visually as well, but more trouble.
