Maytag LA4910 sometimes runs 5 secs and then buzzes or buzzes from the start in both directions. This machine reverses directions in the wash and spin cycles. Suggestions please.

It sounds like the beginning symptoms of timer failure. The timer controls voltage to the motor, including the Neutral side of the line. It also controls the direction of travel for the motor. Of coourse, this machine is supposed to run in 2 different directions, one for agitate, the other to spin and drain.

Try a new timer and see if the problem doesn't go away.

It was a sock stuck in the pump. The belt around the pump caused the motor to stall. Once the sock was removed, everything is a-okay
