Maytag stackable washer/dryer model: lse7804ace, serial: a3947235mh
Yesterday this washer stopped working. Initially, the water would fill. But when the water got to the fill level, nothing else would happen. I opened and shut the lid hard several times and the machine ran through its normal cycle with no odd sounds or odors.
Today, the washer will not even fill.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be? I initially thought it might be the lid switch but now I'm not sure. Thanks in advance for any insight that you can provide. |

| I usually find the lid switch to be the eventual culprit, but it sounds like you may have also blown a small fuse just behind the washers front panel on the left side. This fuse is in line with the lid switch circuit in the event of a shorted switch. If you repace only the fuse, it will blow immediately if the lid is moved. Only by replacing them both can you solve the problem. |

I found that the fuse was blown. I bought a pack of fuses and replaced the blown fuse. When I opened the lid, the new fuse blew immediately.
Of course, as luck would have it, my local parts suppliers did not have the lid switch. I ordered an entire lid switch assembly (since I'm taken it apart anyway) directly from Maytag. It will be here tomorrow. I'll advise you of the results once it is replaced.
Thanks again for your valuable insight. |

I forgot to update you......
The lid switch assembly came as promised and I installed it within minutes. I also replaced the lid since it was quite rusty (around the holes where the hinge pins go through) and I was taking the top off anyway. Once the washer was reassembled, everything worked. Since I had the parts delivered overnight, the total cost was $85 (with the lid). If I could have waited a few days (with a family of 5, I could not), I could have saved $20.
The only other time I had a problem with the washer it cost me $150 for a repairman to diagnose the problem and replace the defect part. I later learned the part sells for $35. So I am quite pleased with the $85 I spent. I'm sure a repairmans visit would have been AT LEAST $150.
Thanks again for your help |
