Have a Maytag A608 s/n 608319 AN that has an odd problem. Start it on regular wash and the tub fills and then the agitator starts like it should. The timer dial advances as it should but when it gets to the spot where it should change to the empty the dirty wash water and go to the rince cycle it just keeps on agitating. The timer dial keeps on turning as well but it just doesn't start the rince cycle. Then to confuse matters if you lift the lid it stops as it should but when you close it it starts to emptying ie goes into the rince cycle. Also I started another wash cycle and advanced the timer dial by hand throught the cycles to test it and they all work just fine. I think it is the timer itself but at $145 + tax and non returnable I am hesitant to purchase it without some expert advice.
Thanks |

I think you hit the nail on the head. The timer is supposed to pause briefly between wash & rinse to allow the motor direction to change. Even though the timer has made the internal switch over from wash to spin mode, the motor must stop for the reversing to take place.
$145 is nothing compared to the cost of a new machine, and on this particular model, is well worth the expense provided the rest of the machine is in reasonably good condition.
We show the part at our Denver warehouse for $99.99. Give my parts distributor a call and see about part number 204476.

Thanks for the confirmation I will go ahead and ordr the part. I am in the Toronto area of Canada so the $99.99 US for the timer is $124.50 Cdn plus shipping, customs, duties and brokerage fees which would put it over the $145 Cdn here. I just hope they have stock. The machine is in excellent shape and is owned and used by my inlaws. They have the matching dryer as well.
