Poor Temperatures or No Heat in  Gas Ovens

Most modern ovens now have electric ignitors to light the gas . This is an energy-saving feature which saves a cubic foot of gas per day over the standing-pilot models! These ignitors are very delicate and usually last only 5-8 years before they must be replaced.

These ignitors glow brightly to light the gas from the electric gas valve. When the ignitors begin to get weak, they may still glow, but the current produced is not enough to open the gas valve. Occasionally, the valve may open, but only after several minutes have passed. The ignitor is connected to a safety valve which looks something like this:

Do not apply voltage directly to the gas valve, as it only uses about 3.3 volts supplied thru the ignitor. Most times, the gas valve is perfectly fine. You can use an OHM meter to check continuity thru the two terminals to be sure.
Ignitors are very easy to replace. Just remember NOT to touch the black part of the new one with your fingers! It would be enough to shatter it once heat was applied.
